When Adam and Pete initially approached me for session drums the plan was for an EP, which quickly grew into a nine-song album. Three of the tunes were presented to me via Guitar Pro (a favored composing device between all of us) as two guitar tracks with a barren drum track - a completely open canvas for me to do my thing. "Sphere" is one of those tunes and I can't stress how fulfilling it was to construct my parts from scratch. Thanks, fellas! (five of the other tunes featured fairly straight-ahead programmed drums and the last one was an acoustic number that I also wrote parts for) Here are a few notes highlighting the subtleties I mentioned above: 2:47 - hats are slightly open, sustaining a moderately static mezzo forte to provide a pleasing wash until 2:59, when a single strong hit (with the hats completely open) sets up the fill-in 4:04 - same as above, except without fill-in 4:31 - light crash riding 5:00 - the brief polyrhythmic foot pattern underneath of the hands complements both guitars Full drum set transcription: s26.photobucket.com Tempo = 134 BPM www.myspace.com www.travisorbin.com
